What has Oxford Climate Choir been doing?

Rewild the Church – Oxford

Oxford Climate Choir were joined by friends from Bristol Bath and Plymouth to support the Wildcard campaign for the Church of England to rewild 30% of its land by 2030. We were kindly hosted by the University Church of St Mary’s on the High Street and then also sang in Radcliffe Square and Christchurch Meadows in view of the spire of Christchurch Cathedral, one of whose clergy Rev. Val Plumb is proposing the rewilding motion at the Church of England Synod. We sang ‘Rewild the Church’ and ‘We need the Trees’

Oxford at Stop Rosebank Campaign

With a decision expected on the climate-wrecking Rosebank Oilfield, Oxford Climate Choir recorded a special video message for Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds. We received a thank you and acknowledgement that she had viewed it, so hope it will encourage her to speak out against Rosebank. And we made the news, with our action reported by both the Oxford Mail and Cherwell Newspaper.

Several choir members also joined the Climate Choir Movement flashmob at two London railway stations.

Climate Justice Late Night at Oxford University Natural History Museum

Here is the Oxford Climate Choir processing to Climate Justice: Museum Late Night at Oxford University Museum of Natural History with Grandfather Thames, who is wearing a giant robe embroidered with the whole of the River Thames. The magnificent robe is the work of Anya Gleizer, an Oxford-based artist.

This event was held in association with the Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Summit, as part of the Oxford Local Programme of events themed around climate change, human rights, and climate justice.

Oxford at Rewild the Church

A group from Oxford Climate Choir travelled to London for this action, supporting the amazing Wild Card campaign and calling for the Church of England to rewild more of its land. Here we are outside St Paul’s after singing to the congregation just before evensong.

About us

Oxford Climate Choir is a small but active group within the Climate Choir Movement. We always welcome new singers, regardless of experience. We meet monthly to rehearse and take part in most national Climate Choir performances and events, as well as planning our own local actions. All songs are taught by ear, with music available for those who find that helpful. If you’d like to join us or find out more, please drop us an email or come along to a rehearsal.

Future Events

Advance notice that there will be NO rehearsals in July or August, but we’ll meet again on September 12th for our usual monthly rehearsal.
